The Birthday I Realized I Was Finally Growing Into Myself

Thirty always sounded old when I was a kid. I imagined people turning thirty with a house, a career they loved, matching towels, and somehow magically understanding taxes. It seemed like the age where everyone had life figured out.

Instead, I turned thirty with more questions than answers. And honestly, I don't think that's a bad thing anymore.

When I was younger, birthdays felt like deadlines. Every year I compared where I was to where I thought I should be. At sixteen, I thought I'd have everything figured out by twenty-five. At twenty-five, I thought thirty would finally make me feel like an adult.

It didn't.

What changed wasn't my age; it was my perspective. I've survived things that my younger self never imagined I'd have to survive. I've made mistakes, trusted the wrong people, lost friendships, changed dreams, and started over more than once.

Looking back, none of those experiences set me back. If anything, they helped shape who I am today. Every difficult chapter taught me something I couldn't have learned any other way.

These days, success looks different to me. Sometimes it's paying my bills. Sometimes it's making it through a difficult week. Sometimes it's simply finding the energy to keep going when life feels overwhelming.

Maybe turning thirty isn't about finally arriving somewhere. Maybe it's about realizing there was never a finish line to begin with. We're all just growing at our own pace, and that's something worth celebrating.
