Rest Isn't Something You Have to Earn

For a long time, I believed rest was something you had to deserve. If I worked hard enough or finished everything on my to do list, then I could finally relax. The problem was, there was always something else waiting to be done.

I think a lot of us grow up believing that being busy means we're successful. We wear exhaustion like a badge of honour and feel guilty whenever we slow down. Somewhere along the way, productivity became tied to our self worth.

Eventually, I realized my body wasn't going to let me keep going forever. Whether it's stress, burnout, or simply trying to do too much, there comes a point where your body starts asking for what your mind keeps ignoring. Rest stops feeling optional.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that rest isn't the opposite of productivity. It's part of it. We don't expect our phones to run forever without charging, yet we expect ourselves to keep going without taking a break.

Some of my best ideas haven't come while I was working. They've shown up during quiet walks, long drives, reading a book, or sitting outside with a cup of coffee. Giving my mind space often accomplishes more than forcing it to keep going.

Rest doesn't make you lazy. It helps you show up as a better version of yourself tomorrow. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is close your laptop, take a deep breath, and simply be.
